FOREWORD

Hearts stick together

The miserable scenes of Wenchuan Earthquake last year still remain in people’s mind clearly. On May 12th, the epicenter area in Sichuan experienced a falling world everywhere, showing a world end to everyone. With its unmatched destructive power, the nature produced numerous tragedies that shocked and frightened us and even made people feel desperate……

However, in that catastrophe, we also saw some huge powers from human beings. In post-earthquake relief, numerous people devoted without calculating their own benefits and without caring about hardship or even danger of life……those moving stories show us a lot of elite and great qualities.

During those unforgettable days, we also engaged into the relief full of human glories in the first time in Nanjing with all others. We donated money and materials in different forms. We sent out works to charity auction aimed at raising funds for the earthquake-striking area and donated blood in blood collection stations in the square……Last June, in Mufu Art Zone, we also organized a memorial concert themed “Together With You”, showing our emption for and belief in those suffering people in the earthquake in the unique artistic manner.

While, in our current life, all kinds of ordeals and pains are happening everyday. The gunfire-rumbling and body-blowing wars, every-growing conflicts in economic and cultural field and between different religions and ethnicities……As recently, mining disasters, H1N1, Korean nuclear crisis, bursting fire in Chengdu’s bus and mysterious airplane accident from Air France……such kind of nerve-rattling information spreads out through various media everyday, feeding our eyes. Everything seems to be reminding people that we are living in a world far from being safe. They make us feel at all times the hidden dangers around and people’s difficult fate.

However, as described before, in front of various crisis and ordeal, human beings would usually show elite and positive qualities such as care, good will, compassion and mutual help, etc. They have long become strong power for us to survive and resist the difficulties and disturbance brought by natural and manmade disasters. They are also the foundation of our survival and source of confidence for us to live well.

Yin Xiaojing, a student from the School of Fine Art in Nanjing Normal University, in her study of an originally fine start of postgraduate program, was unfortunately stricken by severe aplastic anemia. She had to suffer from such severe ordeal in her flower-like age. Upon getting information of her disease, Xiaojing’s schoolmates and teachers responded rapidly with extremely high passion and efficiency, sparing no effort to raise funds for this student from a poor family to pay high medical expenses. A few days ago, Yin Xiaojing’s schoolmates found Mao Yan, an artist whose studio is in Mufu Art Zone. Upon learning the details given by them, Mao Yan immediately made contact to his friends, Cao He, Yu Qing, Liu Guofu (Chief of the Contemporary Fine Art Gallery) and Yu Xiaoyu, another artist. It does not take long before they decided to deal with in the artists’ unique and convenient manner and helped Yin Xiaojing. With their effort, in the following several days, over 30 contemporary artists in Mufu Mountain of Nanjing showed great passion and took out their elite works without consideration for long. But what is the source of the funds? The answer does not take long to emerge. Maybe it is the arrangement of God, or the combined results of many lucky chances, Ms. Ge Xi from Nanjing, upon learning about Yin Xiaojing’s misfortunes and philanthropic act, decided to offer a generous donation. Therefore, this aid to Xiaojing was able to proceed without problems.

This philanthropic act generated by Yin Xiaojing’s misfortune may be an incidental move for the Mufu artists, and the power of these artists is very small. However, as artist Mao Yan has put it, through such move, we just wanted to raise the public awareness of the attention to and care for the ordeals and inequality around us and offer their help timely.

All kind people, our hearts will always be together!

Together with these kind people, we are powerful support behind Yin Xiaojing. Here we would give our best wished for her. We hope she would remain strong and optimistic and come back to the campus as soon as possible!
